Our intermittent poster The Good Roger Roadkill has dipped his poison pen in controversy once again. This time it's Stephen Paddock, supposedly a member of the Church of the SubGenius.
It looks as it Roger may not have written the article; as Roger may not be used to checking the forum, I will post a link to this on their wall. I'm not sure what to do with this. It's well-written, but is bound to get us the kind of notice we may or may not want. I'd like everyone's opinion, preferably ASAP. Do we keep it as it, rewrite it (with a note it's edited), put a notice at the top that this is satire, check to see if Paddock really is a member, or what?
I also request the poster to state whether they did create this article or not, and if not if the poster had permission to post it here. Pope Hildegard (talk) 17:36, October 3, 2017 (UTC)
Opinions[]
KEEP I think it's well written, even if Paddock isn't a member of the Church. He might be, who knows? I'll ask. If it wasn't well written, I would think this is trolling. If it is, it's well done. We should find out if this is written by "Philevan D. Lovesex." That sounds like the names of prominent SubGenii mixed together. It does show we need an article on Bob Black and New Yeti Times.
I added a link to this discussion to the top of the article. Miley Spears Discordian American Princess (let's talk) 20:29, October 3, 2017 (UTC)
KEEP AS IS Unless we find evidence that the poster is not the author and does not have permission to post this, this fits the definition of satire and parody as does much of this site (and, frankly, the Church of the SubGenius itself). Pope Hildegard (talk) 16:02, October 4, 2017 (UTC)
WHIP IT GOOD "put a notice at the top that this is satire" to, what, distinguish from the rest of the site which is completely factual? So what if the New Churchies get prissily offended once again. Thing I'd change is starting an article on New Yeti Times (the world's only reliable newspaper--there's a clue), Bob Black, and maybe this Phil[o] (e) [I]van D[r.]. (Lovese) X. COMMENT I checked with Dr. Philo Drummond. He said he doesn't know if Stephen Paddock was a member of the Church or not, and suggested I check with Rev. Ivan Stang. I just sent Stang an email, so will post what I learn. Miley Spears Discordian American Princess (let's talk) 20:11, October 4, 2017 (UTC)
COMMENT I informed The SubGenius Foundation co-founders Dr. Philo Drummond and Rev. Ivan Stang about the article. Neither said anything about removing it. Drummond said he didn't know if Paddock was a member and suggested I check with Stang. Stang said there is no such member on the books. So this is satire.
