This sets how group decisions are made on this website. It is subject to change. As always, Wikia Policy overrules anything in this article. Pope Hilde (talk) 16:16, October 12, 2015 (UTC)

How group decisions are made on Wikia sites

Each Wikia site can set its own method of making decisions. Standard Wikia practice is that these decisions are made by the Community. However, not all Wikia sites define community or who is given more weight in decision making than others. Some decide by consensus, some by vote, others go by the views of a primary editor.

Some consider the view/vote of every poster equal; some only consider named users; some give more priority to named users; some decide by activity level; and others have other means.

For the first couple years of its existence, this site did not have a consistent method of making decisions and needed one. As some method had to be used, a consistent method was proposed and accepted in 2015. Opinions for changes are welcome and will be fully considered with priority given as listed below.

Understand that requiring membership in any group outside of Wikia violates Wikia policy.

How group decisions are made here

All contributors to this wiki will have their opinions taken into consideration when making decisions. If at all possible, all major decisions should be made by consensus.

Voting shall only be done as a last resort if a consensus cannot be reached. It is preferable that a vote is never necessary. If voting becomes necessary, opinions of primary editors will be considered first, secondary editors next, tertiary editors third. While administrators have tools that allow them to make individual decisions in emergencies, the status of administrator in group decisions is not a factor in counting votes.

Names in each section are listed in alphabetical order by first alphanumeric, not in order of priority. If you see any errors in this list (for example, someone's not credited with uploading an image who did), please posts comments in Comments so it can be checked and, if necessary, fixed. The same goes for something that's changed; i.e., the editor had been active for less than a month when this was posted, and now has been active for a month.

Important: None of this is meant to be taken negatively. For example, if under a user you do not see "established long-time SubGenius", that does not mean that user is not a long-time SubGenius. It merely means that user hasn't demonstrated that on this website.

Proposing changes

A suggestion for changes or for group discussions on issues should be made with a new post (typically using the "Add new topic" button) in Forum:Dobbstalk. Except in extreme circumstances that require a quicker decision, proposals should be open to discussion for at least a week before a decision is made. This will give all active editors a chance to comment. In cases where vandalism/spamming is a significant concern, comments may be limited to named users who are not brand new to this wiki.

Ideal editor

Right now I don't believe any of us have reached the ideal, but it is something to strive for.

Ideal editor: named user, 100+ productive edits, active for one month+, familiar with the website's focus, consistently worked to follow Wikia policy, created article(s), recognized as cooperative with other editors, established long-time SubGenius (1 year+), performed site maintenance, uploaded image(s) to site, added image(s) to article(s)

Tertiary Editors

Any named user who is not a Primary or Secondary Voter, is in good standing (not currently blocked), and has made 20+ productive edits on articles qualifies to be a Tertiary Editor. If your name is not listed below and you believe you qualify, please post a message on an administrator's wall. You can find admins and other users at Special:ListUsers.

Karlbarx: named user, 100+ productive edits on articles, active for one month+, familiar with the website's focus, created article(s), uploaded image(s) to site, added image(s) to article(s)

Shining Path of Least Resistance: named user, 20+ productive edits on articles, active for one month+, familiar with the website's focus, established long-time SubGenius (1 year+), uploaded image(s) to site, added image(s) to article(s)

Voting

All decisions should be made by consensus if at all possible. This decision itself was made by consensus.

However, in situations where a consensus cannot be reached, a vote may be taken. Points will be tallied as follows, with a majority determining the outcome. In case of a tie, the status quo will remain in effect.

  • Primary editors: 2 votes each
  • Secondary editors: 1 vote each
  • Tertiary editors: 1/2 vote each

Comments

COMMENT. I think it's a really good list and well written. But I think we should add something like "works to follow Wikia's policies" and even "enforces Wikia's policies" to the list. Miley Spears Discordian American Princess to the Stars (let's talk) 03:33, October 13, 2015 (UTC)

Thank you. Technically, I think you're correct about "works to follow Wikia's policies". I'm concerned, though, about it looking like we're singling out an editor who doesn't necessarily follow those. I primarily intended this as showing cooperation, and that might make it a little divisive.
As to "enforces Wikia's policies", that is something I would look for from an administrator, not a non-administrative editor.
Please let me know what you think about this. Pope Hilde (talk) 15:45, October 13, 2015 (UTC)
There's another way to possibly do this. We could add something like "long-time SubGenius" to the list, or even "long-time SubGenius Wikia Clench editor." Neither of those would include the anti-Wikian "card-carrying member" requirement. Although on "long-time SubGenius Wikia Clench editor" we'd have the problem of whether or not we include someone who hasn't made very many edits until recently. And that also somewhat overlaps with "100+ productive edits", "active for one month+".
Maybe "established long-time SubGenius" as that would give credit to two editors and not us so it would look more balanced. Opinions? Pope Hilde (talk) 15:53, October 13, 2015 (UTC)
I realized I already have opinions that will help. I'm going to incorporate the suggestions and, instead of doing things the person hasn't demonstrated in strikeout, simply leave them off their list. Again, everyone can let me know their opinions. Pope Hilde (talk) 15:56, October 13, 2015 (UTC)
I'd still like to see something like "helps enforce Wikia policies", but the changes you made are Ok with me. :) Miley Spears Discordian American Princess to the Stars (let's talk) 03:54, October 15, 2015 (UTC)
If we have a set of guidelines for administrators different from Wikia's standards, I might agree. But I'm not if we want to encouraged editors who might not have a lot of Wikia experience essentially telling others what to do. Pope Hilde (talk) 18:36, October 15, 2015 (UTC)

Tertiary Editors

Comment and previous policy moved here. Pope Hilde (talk) 17:08, November 23, 2015 (UTC)

Everyone else who posts here.

The question of who qualifies as a tertiary editor is currently being debated at Forum:Admin Coordination Forum:Tertiary Voters, and once that debate is resolved, the policy here will be updated. Until that time, please refer to the debate at Forum:Admin Coordination Forum:Tertiary Voters, on this topic. Originally the policy was, anyone else who posts here on this forum topic gets to be a tertiary voter, but now other policies to replace that are being debated, so if you have interest in this policy, please take part in that debate and voice your opinion, then once the debate is over, the new policy will be posted here to replace this current paragraph (or if the policy does not change after all, the original policy will have its text put back here in place of this paragraph). --The Overmind (talk) 09:06, November 13, 2015 (UTC)

Ordinarily it is considered inappropriate to edit another editor's comments. In this case, I edited the post above to show this is not current policy but gives useful information on a now current discussion by putting it in italics, and updated the link to the page of the current discussion. If the original poster has a problem with this, he can certainly change it. Pope Hilde (talk) 21:29, November 16, 2015 (UTC)

Proposal on The Overmind

  • COMMENT. I suggest we add "recognized as cooperative with other editors" to The Overmind. State your opinions in a week! Miley Spears Junior Bobbie Girl (let's talk) 03:10, November 2, 2015 (UTC)
  • COMMENT. I agree on the proposed addition. It fits both The Overmind's edit history and current activity. Pope Hilde (talk) 17:49, November 2, 2015 (UTC)
  • COMMENT. It's been over a week. Do it already. JoX the Bobtist (talk) 21:17, November 13, 2015 (UTC)
The consensus was to add the phrase.
